How do I search for books from the comfort of my home?

Bellaire Public LIbrary book search process.

BOOK SEARCH at the Bellaire Public Library  

Search for books from the comfort of your own home! 

Go to 

  • Go to “Card Catalog”
  • Type in search parameter (book title, author, or topic) and click “Find”
  • Scroll to see what is available through our library

            Status = Available (ready to check out)
            Out = Currently on Loan

  • To reserve, click on the book title
  • Click on “reserve this item” and we will call you when the book becomes available
  • (Note: you will need to do a one-time set-up with your name, library card number, and a password to create your account) 

If your book isn’t available through the Bellaire Library and you want to do an Interlibrary Loan (LLC) search or request…..


  • From our website, click on “Search MelCat”
  • or go to
  • Type your search parameters (title, author, or topic)
  • Scroll through the results or revise your search to return fewer results.
  • NOTE: watch the item description as the search may return many options of what you are looking for (large print, e-book, periodical, etc.)
  • Click on “Get this from MelCat”
  • At the Login page, select “Bellaire Public Library” from the drop-down box, type in your name, type in your library card number.
  • Click “submit” (the next screen may ask you to select a library. Select any library that has the book available.  Scroll to bottom of page and click “request selected item”).
  • The next screen will confirm your request. If the request cannot be filled or you want to do additional requests, use the “Start Over” button.  Please note you may need to log in for multiple requests.  Do not use the back arrow as this may lead to multiple requests for the same item.
  • You may also click on the “My MelCat” button, log-in, and view/modify the books you have requested.
  • Be sure to log out when you have completed your request.


We will call you when your book becomes available but feel free to call or stop by to check on the status of your request.
